About The American Chamber Opera Company

Our Story

The American Chamber Opera Company, Inc., founded in 1983, is internationally recognized for its musically excellent and dramatically  powerful performances of chamber operas in English.  We have established chamber opera as a significant musical and dramatic genre, and encourage the development of American lyric music by providing a forum for exceptional works of the past, present and future.

Our decades of production illustrate vividly how we have achieved our goals.  Music by talented and award-winning composers, drama by great writers of the past and present, twenty-eight premieres of a wide-ranging variety of important new works: this imaginative and innovative  programming, presented with our emphasis on excellent musical and dramatic performance, has attracted the acclaim of audiences as well as critics nationally and internationally.

We are a not-for-profit, tax-exempt company which concentrates on developing the artistic potential of our singer/actors, supporting them with creative direction, excellent performance, and strong production values.  Our unique repertoire, combined with our distinctively theatrical approach to production, has given our company a reputation for the most consistently interesting and entertaining operatic performances anywhere.  We hope that you will join us in our efforts to represent and reinvent American opera.
